SUMMER READING FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY AT THE WESTWOOD PUBLIC LIBRARY 2016
PRE-K-5TH GRADE For Westwood children in preK - 5th grade: Registration begins Friday, June 24th at 11:00 AM, but you can register anytime after that. The goal for our summer reading program is to keep kids reading all summer. Kids will earn prizes as they read and complete activities. Remember, it doesn't have to be just library books, it can be any book they read. Kids can bring in their sheets and get prizes based on their progress. 6TH GRADE & UP For Westwood students in 6th Grade and up, we encourage you to participate in our:
One Book Westwood. :As part of the Chat & Color, or just on your own, participate in our second annual community read. We are encouraging everyone to read the book Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer by September 15th when there will be a wrap party including a visit by the author.
"Unplugged" Day on August 10th. Here at the library, there will be no electronic devices available, including our catalog! See if you can find the materials you want the old-fashioned way, using the Dewey Decimal System! We encourage families to also "unplug" that day and send up pictures of how you spend your day.
Teen Raffle Basket- For every book you check out, you will receive a raffle ticket. At the end of summer reading, one lucky teen will win a fabulous basket with lots of fun items including movie tickets and pizza!
Junior Friends and get involved: there are all kinds of volunteer opportunities as well as programs just for you. To sign up as a Junior Friend, sign up here and you'll receive email notifications for all volunteer options and programs.
ADULTS Like the teens above, if you are going to read one book this summer, make it Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer. Participate in our second community read, One Book Westwood, and demonstrate your value of reading, learning and building positive community! As part of One Book Westwood, we are asking families to "unplug" for 1 day, August 10th. We will be "unplugging" here at the library too! See if you can find the materials you want the old-fashioned way! Take pictures of what your family does that day and send them to us!
